A Chance to Meet the U.S. Sports Envoys

Guangdong Science Center will host a talk on May 19 with disabled sports stars sharing their experience in the sports career.

The event is to celebrate the National Day of Caring for the Disabled in China. Two Sports Envoys from the United States, Dr. Andrea Woodson-Smith and Dr. Becky Clark will be there sharing their unique lives of devotion to sports and talking with the audience. The talk will be presented in English only and free of charge.

Dr. Andrea Woodson-Smith is aformer member of the U.S. Wheelchair Basketball Team. She participated in the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games, and won the gold medal at the 2010 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship and the 2011 Parapan American Games. She is now serving as the assistant professor in Physical Education specializing in Adapted Physical Education at North Carolina Central University.

Dr. Becky Clark is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist (LCSW-R) and a Certified Consultant (CC- Association for Applied Sport Psychology) with a private practice in New York City. With more than 20 years of experience, she specializes in working with adolescents and adults with hearing loss, childhood trauma, exercise and psychotherapy, deaf and disability sport, individuals and teams from recreational to elite athletes. Dr. Clark has a rich and long history as a multi-sport standout athlete including: former basketball player for the University of Tennessee Lady Vols, three-time Deaflympian with one gold and two silver medals in volleyball and has run seven marathons.

The Sports Envoys are all renowned sports elites in the United States. They are funded and supported by the United States Government to travel all over the world and communicate with the local communities. They usually give training to sports lovers and coaches, participate in community activities and give speeches and talks relating to sports.
